  8. OS/2 2.0 provides limited compatibility for running LANtastic NOS v4.xx within a 
  9. DOS compatibility session.  Support for the LANtastic SERVER program is not 
  10. currently provided.

  12. Product Overview
  13. OS/2 2.0 is the latest release of IBM's graphically-based operating system.  It 
  14. is a full 32 bit operating system that provides multi-tasking and multi-
  15. windowing, as well as compatibility with Windows 3.0 and DOS-based applications.

  17. Installing LANtastic with OS/2
  18. If you are using an Artisoft AE-2 or AE-3 adapter, it must be in forced 8-bit 
  19. mode.  See you adapter documentation for the appropriate jumper settings. You 
  20. can install LANtastic on a machine that runs OS/2 over either the High 
  21. Performance File System (HPFS) or the DOS FAT file system.  Open the "OS/2 
  22. System" folder from the desktop and select the "Command Prompts" folder.  Choose 
  23. a windowed or full screen DOS session from within this folder.  Once the DOS 
  24. session has started, you may install LANtastic in a workstation configuration as 
  25. detailed in Chapter 3 of the LANtastic NOS User's Manual.  After installing the 
  26. LANtastic files, you MUST complete the following steps before running any of 
  27. the LANtastic programs:
  28.  
  29. 1.  Make a DOS boot diskette.  
  30.     
  31.     A.  At a machine running DOS, format a diskette with the command 
  32.  
  33.         FORMAT A: /S
  34.  
  35.     Note:  MS-DOS 5.0 was used during in-house testing.
  36.  
  37.     B.  Create a CONFIG.SYS file on the boot diskette.  It must contain the 
  38.     following statements:
  39.  
  40.         DEVICE=FSFILTER.SYS
  41.         FILES=50
  42.         BUFFERS=30      
  43.         LASTDRIVE=Z
  44.  
  45.     C.  Create an AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the boot diskette and include these 
  46.     lines:
  47.  
  48.         PATH=C:\LANTASTI; C:\DOS;C:\
  49.         C:
  50.         STARTNET
  51.  
  52.     D.  Copy the file FSFILTER.SYS to the boot diskette from the C:\OS2\MDOS 
  53.     directory on the OS/2 machine.  The complete list of files that must be on 
  54.     the boot diskette is:
  55.  
  56.         COMMAND.COM
  57.         AUTOEXEC.BAT
  58.         CONFIG.SYS
  59.         FSFILTER.SYS

  62. 2.  Create a boot image of the boot diskette:
  63.  
  64.     A.  On the OS/2 PC, place the boot diskette in the appropriate drive, 
  65.     open a DOS or OS/2 window and type the command:
  66.  
  67.         VMDISK A: C:\DOS\DOS_BOOT.IMG
  68.  
  69.     See the OS/2 Master Help Index for details on using the VMDISK command.

  72. 3.  Create the "Specific Version boot" DOS session icon:
  73.  
  74.     A.  In the "Command Prompts" folder position the mouse cursor over the "DOS 
  75.     Window" icon and press the right mouse button.  
  76.  
  77.     B.  Select the Copy option from the menu that appears, then type "DOS Boot 
  78.     Image" or another description in the "New Name" field.  
  79.  
  80.     C.  Press the Copy button to create the new icon.  
  81.     
  82.     D.  Click the right mouse button on the new icon and then click on the 
  83.     right-pointing arrow button that appears next to the "Open" selection.  
  84.  
  85.     E.  Choose the "Settings" selection from that list and ensure that the "Path 
  86.     and file name" field contains an asterisk (*).

  88.     F.  Select the "Session" page and click on the "DOS Settings" button.  
  89.     Choose the DOS_STARTUP_DRIVE selection from the "Settings" list and type the 
  90.     following in the "Value" field:

  92.     C:\DOS\DOS_BOOT.IMG
  93.  
  94.     G.  Then click on the "Save" button and this will place you back on the 
  95.     Settings page.

  97.     H. Double-click on the title bar icon (the button with a graphic on it in 
  98.     the upper left corner of the window) to exit back to the system folder.

  100.     I.  Double-clicking on the DOS Boot Image icon will now bring up a DOS 
  101.     window and start LANtastic.
  102.  
  103. 4.  Use LANtastic from within the DOS session just as you would at a DOS-based 
  104. workstation.  Note that disk redirections made within the LANtastic session will 
  105. only be accessible from within that session and not from anywhere else in OS/2 
  106. or other DOS windows.
